I am officially intrigued by Lena Dunham. I love her show, Girls. I love that it showcases a strong, specific female point of view — there is far too little of that on television, and in movies. I also loved Dunham’s homage to Nora Ephron in the New Yorker - it made me start reading everything Ephron has ever written, which turns out to be a fascinating window into being a woman in America from the 60s forward.
To me, the fact that Dunham has such a powerful platform at such a young age (she’s in her 20s) is absolutely inspiring and jealousy inducing. It also helps that she seems, as a storyteller, to have perspective and humor about her experience — to be willing to show herself being entitled or superficial as well as vulnerable and creative.
Here’s to more female storytellers willing to share ourselves authentically - and in an entertaining way!
